A TIP for
Realtors: The "Art" of Working with Children
Many home buyers and sellers
bring their children along with them when meeting with their
real estate professional. Sometimes this can spell disaster for
your planned meeting. Why not take advantage of the situation?
Allow your client's children to
create "Refrigerator Art" for their parents. you may already
have the paper and crayons on hand for the little tykes. You can
take it a step further by making it a marketing tool:
OPTION 1:
- Put your name, company, phone
number, and web site address on a piece of paper.
- Copy a basic picture on the
paper such as houses, dogs, cats, etc.
- Buy individual sets of crayons
(you can put a sticker on the box of crayons with your name,
phone number, and web site.)
- Keep them with you in the
office, the car, and at open houses.
- Kids will draw on them and
hand them to Mom/Dad to hang up.
OPTION 2:
- Put your name, company, phone
number, and web site address on a quality piece of paper with
a nice boarder.
- Ask the child to draw a
picture of what their new home should look like.
- Tell the child that you will
be using the picture to help you find them the exact home they
wanted.
- Once the house closes, put the
picture in a magnetic frame. Make certain your name and
contact information are visible.
- Send the picture with a note
that says: "It looks exactly like the picture <child's name>
drew...I hope you are all happy in your new home."
Refrigerator Art is easy and
inexpensive. Additionally, by providing fun activities for the
children, you've accomplished several positive things:
- The child's art will often be
displayed by the parents. This puts your name in front of the
client constantly, even if they don't consciously think about
it.
- Parents can concentrate on the
real estate information you are presenting to them when their
children are occupied.
- You are displaying an interest
in your client's family, which goes a long way toward client
loyalty!
